Gunner, starring Luke Hemsworth, Morgan Freeman, and John Hickman as Sheriff Bob Lilly, recently reached into the Top 10 on Amazon Prime France and has been winning multiple awards at international festivals, taking home top honors for direction, action, and feature filmmaking. Behind the scenes, it’s the working dynamic with a talented cast and crew and between John Hickman and Dimitri Logothetis that made the process memorable and personally significant.
Dimitri Logothetis is best known for working with John Hickman directing Jiu Jitsu and the recent award-winning feature Gunner. In a recent interview, John recently shared his experience working with Dimitri.
“I really like working with Dimitri, the director of Gunner and Jiu Jitsu. He has a gift—I don’t know what it is—but [he pulls] a performance out of me that I can’t explain.”
“He’s a very interesting guy,” John said. “And I like him as a person. I enjoy working with him a lot.”
For John, who has appeared in over 40 projects alongside some of Hollywood’s most respected names including Bruce Willis, Al Pacino, Nicolas Cage, Common, and Tyrese Gibson.. His past roles have leaned heavily into action, suspense, and physical presence, including doing his own stunts.
Working with Dimitri on Jiu Jitsu offered John his first glimpse. But it was Gunner—and specifically the role of Sheriff Bob Lilly, pushed John further.
“Yeah, probably the one role that’s had the most effect on me is Sheriff Bob Lilly from the movie Gunner,”
John continues his path in the entertainment industry, most recently appearing in Baron’s Cove with Brittany Snow!
Gunner continues to grow worldwide after the Warner Bros. Movie was released in theaters, recently earning Best Adventure Film along with a Certificate of Appreciation at the Athens Indie Film Festival. This recognition adds to the film’s extensive list of awards from prestigious festivals, including the Hawai‘i International Film Festival, Dublin Movie Awards, and the New York Indie Film Festival. The film’s blend of thrilling action and emotional depth has resonated with audiences and critics alike!
