May 7, 2025Actor and filmmaker Isaiah Kainoa is making his mark in entertainment with versatility and dedication within the film scene. While he is known for previous works as an actor, Isaiah has been diligently mastering his skills behind the camera, expanding his works as a videographer and filmmaker. In a recent interview, Isaiah Kainoa shared insights into his exciting recent projects and the driving forces behind his creative journey.
The Polyverse: A Polynesian Cinematic Universe
One of Isaiah’s most exciting collaborations is with The Polyverse, a production company founded by his close friend Esera Tuaolo and his wife, Tui. “Working with Esera, who I consider a brother, and Tuion The Polyverse has been an incredible experience,” Isaiah explained.
The Polyverse specializes in creating short films and series that reimagine Polynesian stories within a modern context.
Their recent project, “Malosi,” showcases this vision. Isaiah described it as “Polynesian Avengers,” a concept that brings Polynesian gods to life with modern-day superpowers. Isaiah’s role on the project was twofold: acting and serving as the second videographer. This allowed him to contribute creatively both in front of and behind the camera. He emphasizes the importance of Esera’s mentorship in refining his videography skills. With Esera as the primary camera operator, Isaiah has gained invaluable experience and insight. He also recognizes Tui’s role, highlighting her work as the mastermind behind the magic.
Embracing & Supporting the Independent Film Scene: A Shift in Focus
Isaiah discussed that he’s made a conscious decision to focus on independent film projects. “I really transformed and started to work more in the independent film industry rather than bigger productions,” he stated. This shift has also led him to explore his passion for videography. “I have also crossed over to be more behind the camera than in front,” he continued. “Mainly being a videographer these past years-and it has really been a blast to do. I still act if needed too, but my main focus these past years has been to film and create art through film.”
AASL: Supporting Local Hawaiian Businesses
Beyond The Polyverse, Kainoa is deeply involved with AASL (AlwaysAlwaysSupportLocal), an organization founded by Stephen and Mika Paresa. AASL is more than just a brand; it’s a movement dedicated to supporting the people of Hawaii and giving back to the community.
They actively cover local events, interview individuals making a positive impact, and are in the process of becoming a non-profit. This non-profit will support and uplift the local small business community of Hawai’i through promotion, media, and educational programs that foster sustainable growth, cultural pride, and community resilience.
Isaiah Kainoa serves as one of AASL’s primary videographers, capturing their work on camera. He also holds a position on their Board of Directors, further showing his dedication to their mission.
Staying Grounded: The Power of “Preimaging”
When asked how he stays grounded and focused when preparing for a performance or film shoot, Isaiah emphasized the importance of mental preparation. “I would have to say before any performance or any time I film, I always ‘pre-imagine’ the shoot,” he shared. He visualizes the process and outcome, listening to music to get into the right mindset.
Isaiah also draws parallels between his preparation for film work and his experience playing high school football in Hawaii. “I always joke around with others that I treat every performance or film job like I’m prepping for a football game,” he said. “So just getting into that mindset helps me with confidence in everything that I do in film.” This unique approach highlights Kainoa’s dedication and commitment to excellence in his craft.
From acting to videography, his passion for filmmaking shows through in every project he undertakes. Follow Isaiah Kainoa’s journey in film, latest updates, and more on his official social sites!
