April 19, 2025US-based Nigerian environmental scientist and researcher, Adeyinka Olusanya, has been honoured with the esteemed IALE–North America Student Travel Award, a distinction that recognises emerging leaders in the field of landscape ecology. The award, offered by the International Association for Landscape Ecology (IALE), is a testament to Olusanya’s scholarly excellence and his commitment to tackling urgent global environmental challenges.
A native of Nigeria, Olusanya holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from a Nigerian university and a Master’s degree in the same discipline from a university in the United States. The IALE–NA Student Travel Award is granted to only ten students annually, chosen based on the scientific quality, innovation, and relevance of their research. It supports attendance at IALE’s prestigious annual meeting, where global experts, practitioners, and scholars converge to share cutting-edge insights in land-use change and ecological resilience. This opportunity fosters academic collaboration and amplifies the voices of promising young researchers on the international stage.
Beyond the IALE award, Olusanya’s professional achievements continue to garner attention. He was recently inducted as a Fellow of the National Institute of Professional Engineers and Scientists (NIPES), a recognition reserved for professionals who have made outstanding contributions to science and engineering. He has also been conferred a Fellowship of the Commonwealth Academy of Leadership and Management (CALM) in the United Kingdom.
Olusanya’s trajectory exemplifies a rare blend of academic brilliance, research innovation, and global relevance. As he continues to rise in his field, his work is shaping the discourse on environmental sustainability and reinforcing the role of African scholars in advancing ecological science worldwide.
